After a delay related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sterling’s Master Chorale and the Northeastern Junior College music department have announced the Spring 2021 music scholarship recipient, Delaney Battin.

Battin is a freshman at Northeastern this year. She graduated from Woodland Park High School, where she played both volleyball and basketball.

Choosing to follow her love of singing and composing her own music, she has turned from athletics to music. After researching different schools, Battin chose the music program at NJC to help build her skills for a music career. She is a talented contralto vocalist and has a passion for songwriting, which she does on the guitar, and she is now majoring in music at NJC.

Battin is studying music theory and vocal music with Professor Celeste Delgado-Pelton. She sings in the NJC Contemporary Choir and is a recording studio monitor for Professor Lee Lippstrew.

After graduating from Northeastern, she plans on continuing to write and perform her own compositions, as well as possibly pursuing a career in Music Therapy.
