Nursing Department Scholarships
Students accepted into the NJC Nursing Program will be provided scholarship information directly through the nursing department.
Alyce Mari Memorial
This memorial scholarship was established in October, 2010 by the family of Alyce Mari. Alyce passed away in 2009 after serving at St. Benedicts Hospital and Logan County Hospital as a caring LPN for 44 years. To read more about Alyce click here.
B.J. Langdon
In the fall of 1962, the practical nursing program was started at NJC. Langdon was the main clinical instructor the first year. Over the years, from 1962 until 1998, when Langdon retired, she taught every class in the program. She originated the Introduction to Gerontology class, which assisted students who worked in nursing homes. She remains an avid supporter of the NJC Nursing Department. Bob and Norma Plank Scholarship
Bob is currently 92 years old and he is still one of Northeatern’s hardest workers and fundraisers for the student community. Bob and his wife Norma created this scholarship to support students majoring in many areas including nursing. To read more about Bob and Norma click here.
Debbie Hessler Memorial
This $1,000 award provides support to a single parent who is enrolled in a nursing or other health-related science field. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate a financial need through submission of the FAFSA federal aid application.
Frank & Gloria Walsh
This scholarship assists nursing students with their nursing education.
G.N. and Katherine Hurst
This scholarship was founded in 2001 by GN and Katherine Hurst to support students in the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at NJC. They were very generous and compassionate community members who loved serving others. To read more about them click here.
Hubert H. & Luella E. Herboldsheimer Memorial
This Memorial Scholarship was created in 2008 by Richard and Evelyn Herboldsheimer in honor the life of Richard's father, Hubert and was amended in 2010 in memory of Richard's mother, Luella who joined him. This scholarship aims to assist LPN students of the NJC nursing program in honor of the love and care Hubert received from his nurses at Devonshire Acres in Sterling in his last few years of life. Jamie Gorman Memorial Nursing Scholarship
This memorial scholarship was started in 2022 by Preston and Paulette Carpenter, Jamie's lifelong partner and mother-in-law, in an effort to give back to the many ICU nurses that worked tireless to save Jamie's life. You can read more about Jamie here.
Jimmie McCaffree Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2011 by Inez "Jimmie" McCaffree as the result of hiring young nurse aids and CNAs to help care for her husband when was ill. Most of the aids that she hired were struggling financially but had a desire for more nursing education. Jimmie decided that a scholarship was the only way she could help women like this. Kathy Ann Mackey Memorial
This scholarship was created by Jake Schneider in memory of the wonderful life him and Kathy shared and the love she had for nursing. Kathy lived a life of service to others, starting with a dedicated nursing career of 41+ years. This scholarship is awarded to a full-time nursing student who is a resident of the local 5-county service area. Recipients must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstrate a financial need. Kimball Nursing Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the NJC Nursing Program and has a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Mary Fonte
This scholarship is awarded to a Practical Nursing student or Associate Degree Nursing student. Eligible students must be employed by Devonshire Acres, as well as be a resident of Northeastern Colorado. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA.
Mary Jane Hagemeier Memorial
The NJC Nursing department selects the recipients of this $300 scholarship.
Sherri Shaddock Sunshine
This award is made to a nursing student that is at least 21 years of age. Funds may be awarded at $300 per term, for up to 4 terms maximum to support graduation from our Nursing degree program.
Simants Family
This $2,500 scholarship is awarded to a 2nd-year nursing student that has maintained a minimum 3.5 GPA. Preference will be given to residents of Logan County.
Stacey Karg Memorial
This scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the nursing program, with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
