Advisory Council Minutes Thursday, February 13, 2025

The regular meeting of the NJC Advisory Council was held Thursday, February 13, 2025, on the NJC main campus in the Hays Student Center Tennant Art Gallery.

Felicia Rodriguez

Others Present: President Mike White, Shawn Rose, Jesse Quinlin, Heather Brungardt, Jim Yahn, Vanessa Soliz, Leslie Weinsheim, and Callie Jones from the Sterling Journal Advocate. 

  1. Kevin Blankenship, 2024-2025 Chair, called the meeting to order at 12:45 pm.
  2. The group participated in the Pledge of Allegiance.
  3. The agenda for the February 13, 2025 Advisory Council Meeting. Jamie Jo Axtell made the motion to approve the agenda and Jayce Maker seconded the motion. The motion passed. 
  4. The minutes of the November 14, 2024 Advisory Council Meeting. Karla Rosas made the motion to approve the minutes and Jeff Long seconded the motion. The motion passed.
  5. RESIGNATION OF ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER – President Mike White
    1. Kevin Blankenship has resigned from the NJC Advisory Council. Kevin and his family will be moving out of the community. This was Kevin’s last meeting. Felicia Rodriguez, who is the Vice Chair, will assume the duties as the Chair for the final meeting of the school year in April. 
    2. President White thanked Kevin for his two years of service to the Advisory Council and thanked him for being the Chair this current school year. President White presented Kevin with a plaque commemorating his service on the Council. 
  6. DISCUSSION ON REPLACEMENT OF ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER – President Mike White
    1. With Kevin’s resignation, President White will be seeking a replacement. 
  7. ACADEMIC PROFILE – Leslie Weinsheim 
    1. Leslie Weinsheim, Director of Institutional Research, handed out the Fall 2024 Academic Profile. IR-Surveys | Northeastern Junior College
    2. If any council member has any specific questions for Leslie about this report, please email Leslie at leslie.weinsheim@njc.edu.
  8. STRATEGIC PLAN LISTENING TOUR
    1. CCCS has released its new Strategic Plan. President White provided the Council with highlights of this plan.
    2. To align with the new CCCS Strategic Plan, NJC has formed a Strategic Planning Committee who is charged with helping create the 2026-2031 NJC Strategic Plan.
    3. President White provided the Council with the following questions that were created by the NJC Strategic Planning Committee and asked for their feedback on these questions.
      1. If you were to brag about NJC, what would be your topic?
      2. Are there things you are concerned about regarding the college? Values, missions, infrastructure…
      3. Where do you see the college in 5 years? 10 years?
      4. Any other thoughts about the future of NJC?
    4. The council discussed several of these areas and are providing Mike with written feedback for consideration by the Strategy Committee. 
  9. ADJOURNMENT
    1. The meeting was adjourned at 1:35 pm.
