Commercial Drivers License (CDL)

NJC's CDL program will offer a comprehensive course for first time drivers to prepare for the high-demand career of truck driving. Through a combination of classroom instruction and on-the-road training, students will develop the knowledge and skills required for successfully obtaining their CDL. The CDL program will include instruction from highly qualified industry veterans, state-of-the-art technology and hands-on training to prepare students for a successful career in this high-demand industry.

Current Course Information

The Commercial License Permit (CLP) prep course will be held Monday through Thursday over two consecutive weeks for a total of 16 hours. This course will take students through the Colorado Commercial Driver’s License Manual to prepare students for the CLP written exams.

Each session consists of 16 hours of instructional time and will be held Monday through Thursday over two consecutive weeks beginning at 3:00 PM each day. The session will include classroom instruction only.

The permit course can be attended in-person or virtually. Select class type preference on the registration form.

The Behind the Wheel CDL course is designed for those holding a Commercial License Permit (CLP).

The Class A program includes:

  • Developing necessary backing skills
  • Proper Pre-trip Inspection
  • Driving/Operating a manual transmission tractor trailer on Public Roadways
  • The intent of the course is to meet all FMCSA ELDT training requirements, and to exceed the training and proficiency necessary to pass a CDL -A Skills Test.

Flexible training schedules are available including weekends, weekdays and one one one tutorial training to accommodate each student's schedule.

This course will 96 hours of classroom time, road experience and simulator experience.

Additional eligibility requirements include successfully completing drug testing and a medical evaluation.

Course Cost: $4,200
Certificate Issued: Upon Completion of Course
