Academic Renewal
The Academic Renewal Policy allows former Northeastern students to apply for the establishment of a new academic record. A student may be granted an "Academic Renewal" only once and the decision will be final if approved by the Academic Standards Committee and accepted by the student. Guidelines
- A maximum of 30 credit hours can be excluded from the GPA.
- Courses and grades approved for Academic Renewal remain on the transcript but are excluded from the GPA calculation. No classes will be deleted or removed.
- Academic Renewal applies to D and F grades only.
- Academic Renewal does not apply to W grades.
- Academic Renewal does not apply to courses that have already been excluded from student's GPA.
- Academic Renewal may not have a positive impact on Financial Aid or Veteran's Benefits.
Eligibility
- Students must wait a minimum of two academic years from the last term being considered before applying for Academic Renewal.
- Students must be an active student at Northeastern, currently enrolled and actively attending.
- Student must have enrolled and successfully completed in the same term at least six credit hours with a 2.0 term GPA to be eligible for Academic Renewal.
- Eligibility term must be a minimum of two academic years from the last term being considered; grades must be posted prior to apply for Academic Renewal.
- Students can only apply for Academic Renewal once, and if approved, is not reversible.
Procedures
- A student must submit a letter of request to Northeastern Academic Renewal.
- The Records Office will check the student's transcript for eligibility and, if eligible, forward the request of eligible students to the Chair of the Academic Standards Committee for review.
- The Academic Standards Committee will review and recommend approval or denial before a semester pre-registration or registration period.
- The Northeastern Records Office, after a thorough review of the student's transcript, will identify the coursework to be excluded from the GPA.
- The Records Office will compute an Academic Renewal GPA and provide the student with an updated transcript.
