Academic Technology Action Plan

To be completed by January 1, 2016:

  • Conduct personalized trainings on making instructional material accessible
  • Conduct workshops/webinars each year.  Workshops will cover materials based on making instructional materials accessible
  • Design and create Universal Design for Learning (UDL) training course in D2L
  • Remediation of course documents on a case by case basis
  • Caption/Transcribe at least 50% multimedia in all courses
  • Caption/Transcribe at least 50% current multimedia in iTunes U

To be completed by January 1, 2017:

  • Design and create self-paced course for making multimedia accessible in D2L for faculty
  • Design and create self-paced course for making course documents accessible in D2L for faculty
  • Remediation of course documents on a case by case basis
  • Caption/Transcribe at least 75% multimedia in all courses
  • Caption/Transcribe at least 50% current multimedia in iTunes U

To be completed by January 1, 2018:

  • Design and create self-paced course for making multimedia accessible in D2L for students
  • Design and create self-paced course for making course documents accessible in D2L for students
  • Remediation of course documents on a case by case basis
  • Provide audio description for at least 10% multimedia (videos)
  • All instructional materials in D2L must meet accessibility standards or they will be removed from the courses.
  • Caption/Transcribe at least 50% current multimedia in iTunes U
  • Provide training modules for New Employee Orientation and Faculty/Adjunct Refresher on
    • Disability Services,
    • Assistive Technology,
    • Alternate Formats,
  • Course content remediation

Ongoing:

  • Review and assess the Desire2Learn platform (product accessibility)
  • Review and assess course document accessibility
  • Review and assess multimedia (audio and video) accessibility
  • All new content uploaded on the eLearning Webpages(s) must meet accessibility standards or they will be removed from the site.
  • Review NJC’s iTunes U site as well as other sites hosted and controlled by NJC that are used for academic purposes. 
  • Work with 3rd party companies like Lynda.com to request development of accessibility videos for commonly used programs.
  • Send out bi-annual reminders to all instructors that web content must be compliant and reminders to all employees where materials can be located for reference on web accessibility.
  • Continued research of accessibility standards and best practices for utilization.
  • Training resource - one-on-one, train the trainer and group training to be provided and scheduled on a case by case basis on topics related to Disability Services and Web Accessibility.
