“I feel you have to earn the title of citizenship, as in your own property or business, be able to vote, contribute to your community, education, etc. I consider myself as upholding the title of citizenship because I am active on my college campus and in the Honors Program at NJC.”    -- Jessie Wallace

“To me, citizenship is being a member of something specific, where you have certain duties to weigh in for the betterment of the organization, and then the organization will pay back in some way…Without citizenship, nobody would have the opportunity to benefit themselves as well as their community. There would be no social cohesion that encourages individuals to identify with and contribute to the welfare of their society.  Citizenship also grans access to a variety of different opportunities.  Without this, individuals may face barriers to accessing these opportunities, resulting in greater inequality in well-being.”   -- Kyle Fryrear

“Citizenship is shown most often in the community you live in… Citizenship is displayed in many different acts, we help each other, support each other, and most importantly we stick together.”  -- Daniel Tanner

“Citizenship is a privilege in which we as people get the opportunity to take part in certain activities or, in the case of our country, live under her protection while at the same time being responsible for holding up our end of the agreement.”  -- Kellum Carnahan

“Critical thinking to me is a lot more than just thinking about something hard or reading what is written in a book.  It is applying what is in that book to the real world.”  -- Daniel Tanner

“To me critical thinking goes so much deeper, it is the tool with which society and views are formed, something we use every minute of every day, that shapes our very belief systems.”  -- Kellum Carnahan

“While I believe that anyone can be a leader, not everyone works towards becoming a leader.  Natural leaders have a presence that demands attention and respect and tend to be bold and well spoken.  On the other hand, someone who works to be a leader knows the purpose and objective of tasks; big or small.  A leader should be knowledgeable in utilizing people’s strengths and mitigate their weaknesses as well as coordinate collective goals.  In addition, a leader must also be able to adjust to the changing circumstances and the ability to address any unexpected challenges that arise.”  -- Cole Halley

“One of the qualities of a strong or great leader, and a quality I would like to possess through my life as a leader, includes pushing a team towards a common, good goal.  Another one is the ability to comfort and keep the group motivated.  Keeping a group happy and willing to work are things I think every leader should do.  Every leader should not only be trying to finish their goal, but also improve the lives and conditions of every person that they are leading.”  -- Daniel Tanner

“Strong leaders hold everyone accountable, including themselves.  They maintain their integrity while being decisive and bring a sense of courage and inspiration to their peers.” -- Kyle Fryrear

“Often, we associate being a leader with doing amazing things, like holding a position of authority in high pollical stations, far out of the grasp of many people’s wants or aspirations.  But many strong leaders simply lead by example.  When I really think of individual leaders in my life, the people that come to mind typically demonstrate character traits that I find honorable.  In think true leaders are those people who can be success without needing the credit that comes with success.”  -- Kellum Carnahan
