Hays Student Center
Building on campus located at 721 Landrum Ln. on the Main Campus that houses the bookstore, Student Success Center, Registrar, Financial Aid, Admissions, and Pete’s Retreat Café on the first floor. The Associated Student Government, Heritage Center and a formal ballroom are located on the second floor. Often shortened to just “Hays” or “HSC.”

Herboldsheimer Hall
Residence hall with double occupancy rooms, and located at 147 College Ave. on the Main Campus. Can hold 77 residents. Use full name on first mention. Can be shorted to Herbie Hall in subsequent mentions in the same piece of content. See residence hall.
Heritage Center
The on-campus museum dedicated to Northeastern’s history. It is located on the second floor in Hays Student Center.
high school
Two words, no hyphen. Capitalize when part of a proper noun (i.e., Sterling High School), but lowercase when not a formal noun (i.e., high school student)
Hispanic
See Latino.
HLC
Abbreviation for the Higher Learning Commission, an independent corporation that accredits degree-granting, post-secondary educational institutions.
hold
“Student records hold” is the preferred term when referring to the restrictions placed on students who have unmet obligations or unpaid fees. May prevent students from registering, graduating, or receiving official transcripts.
homepage
One word. The college has one homepage, the first page of the site, and other pages are webpages.
honors program
Uppercase both words when referring to the merit-based program that provides courses offering enriched instruction to eligible students.

Include with URLs that do not begin with www. (i.e., https://cdn.cccs.edu/BannerSelfService/student/banner.html)
hybrid courses
Courses that combine face-to-face classroom instruction with online learning.
